This lavishly illustrated weighty volume consists of 3 sections. The main book details the technical and combat employment of this type of carrier. It includes full technical information including details of the ships and their aircraft, the development of radar equipment used on American naval vessels during WWII (with many CAD drawings of radar antennae) Contains a chronology of operations and the history of each carrier with a description of most of the combat operations in which it took part. Includes locations of the individual carriers during actions in the Pacific, names of the commanders of individual ships, orders of battles of the various squadrons and air groups stationed on them. A separate Map book which includes not only actions in the Philippine Sea, Iwo Jima and Okinawa but many lesser known atolls and islands where aircraft from the Essex Class carriers took part (with many maps devoted to Task Force 38 and 58 during 1944-45). Maps show the locations of sinking or damaged Japanese naval vessels. Also included are B2 sheets of 2d and 3d computer drawings/colour profiles of INTREPID CV-11 from January, 1944 and June, 1944, LEXINGTON CV-16 from October, 1944 and RANDOLPH CV-15 from January 1945
