The attached bookplate is signed by the author Werner Roell, who was a Stuka pilot on the Eastern Front, Norway and Crete ( KC winner, 477 operations) before joining Jagdverband Galland in 1945. Hajo Hermann who flew in the Spanish Civil War and campaigns in Norway, France, the Low Countries and the battle of Britian. He later developed “Wilde Sau” night-fighter tactics and was awarded KC with oak leaves and swords.
Wolfgang Falck : The “happy falcon” and Father of Nightfighters. He flew in various western campaigns before building the Nachtjager force.
Gunther Rall : Third highest scoring ace in history, Knights Cross with Oakleaves and Swords. He flew with JG52 in both the Western and Eastern Fronts.
Heinz Cramer : Adjutant to Herman Goring 1937-8. Shot down during the Battle of Britain, he escaped alongside Farnz von Werra “the one that got away”. KC winner.
Friedrich Ostheimer : He was Wittgenstein’s radar/radio operator for 80 sorties. Crew member for 16 of his victories, and escaped from the aircraft when Wittgenstein was killed in 1944.
