Description

The Douglas A-1 Skyraider (designated AD before the Navy and Air Force standardised their designations in 1962) is an American single-seat attack aircraft that was in service from 1946 until the early 1980s, serving in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. The Skyraider had an unusually long career and remained in service well into the jet age, when most piston-engined attack or fighter aircraft were replaced by jet aircraft. The aircraft was nicknamed “Spad”, after the French fighter aircraft from the First World War, or “Able Dog” after its original AD designation. The Skyraider was operated by the US Navy (USN), the United States Marine Corps (USMC) and the USAF, and was also in service with the Royal Navy, the French Air Force, the South Vietnamese Air Force and others. It remained in US service until the early 1970s. This book is aimed at modellers and enthusiasts with historical details, tours, colour profiles and instructions for rebuilding the Skyraider in common scales.
