With black and white photos, this book describes the extraordinary story about this fabulous aircraft of the early 1930s, constructed by Geoffrey de Havilland and his team, from which later the famous Mosquito evolved. Specially designed for the MacRobertson Air Race in 1934, from London to Melbourne, Australia. Only five aircraft were built. The red coloured Comet, a wooden construction, sponsored by a luxury hotel and therefore also named “Grosvenor House”, markings G-ACSS, won the race, requiring just a bit more than 70 hours of total flying time to reach Melbourne, establishing a speed record. Until today, only this aircraft of the originals was to survive, is currently owned by the Shuttleworth Collection at Old Warden, is in airworthy condition and on regular display.
